How critical is it to have the right approach? The approach to what, you might ask?


The approach on how to reach out to you leads through social media.


Many salespeople use very blunt reach-out methods. Here are the three major fails that I see when people are reaching out to potential leads:


  1. The message is not relevant "I am selling carpets, do you want one?"
  2. The message is not customized: "Your profile looks appealing, ..."
  3. The messages feel spamming: "You haven't answered my 256 previous messages, I will not send you another one!" 


Yes, social networks give you access to a vast amount of potential leads, though do not fall into the trap of trying to reach out to all of those at the same time. Quality over quantity is the golden rule for social selling! 


Therefore,

1) Define and target well your leads

2)Collect enough insights to make your reach out relevant

3) Dose well the number of messages that you are sending
